What on earth do free spirits, unconventionality, and art have to do with a region in the Czech Republic?

The term Bohemianism emerged in France in the early 19th century when artists and creators began to concentrate in the lower-rent, lower class gypsy neighborhoods. Bohémien was a common term for the Romani people of France, who had reached Western Europe via Bohemia.
So all the ridiculous people on tumblr posting pictures of themselves in fields and tagging it ”gypsy” are actually following a long tradition of exoticizing the Romani people. (BTW I have known a lot of Romani and don’t recall ever seeing them wandering around in fields wearing long flowing skirts.)

Hell, many Romani don’t even have access to fields. Many will be lucky to ever see any landscape besides the city slum...
